Published: March 14, 1953. A creaking Italian-made romantic drama titled “The Count of St. Elmo,” yesterday’s arrival at the Cinema Verdi, is so antiquated, both in content and format, as to suggest the assembly-line operettas that thrived on the advent of talkies. As the frail triumphant heroine, Anna Maria Ferrero (born 1934) is quite convincing. But all the brave, joined hands and picturesque backdrops cannot disguise the familiar tedium of “The Count of St. Elmo,” an old-fashioned movie served the old-fashioned way. NY Times.
