Deborah Watling, the actress who has died of cancer aged 69, was best known as Victoria Waterfield, the petite and doe-eyed assistant to the second Doctor Who in some 40 episodes of the series, which ran from 1967 to 1968. She was only 19 when she was cast as the “young Victorian miss” who was whisked away in the Tardis after the death of her mother and the slaughter of her father by the Daleks. Telegraph 27 July 2017
