Sternova’s famly fled Czechoslovakia after the NAZI takeover, moving to Mexico in 1941. After winning a beauty contest, the naturally blonde Sternova tried acting in Hollywood, and starred opposite Mel Ferrer and Anthony Quinn in the bullfighting drama The Brave Bulls (1951) but was most successful in Mexican films.
She allegedly attempted suicide after her American boyfriend was killed in action in 1942. After a brief marriage to an improverished and closeted homosexual actor, she fell for Spanish bullfighter Luis Miguel Dominguín, and committed suicide soon after his marriage to Italian actress Lucia Bosé.
