Linda Darnell: American actress born Monetta Eloyse Darnell 16 October 1923, Dallas Texas; died 10 April 1965, age 41, Glenview Illinois; burns sustained in house fire.
Darnell was a precocious child model and stage actress in Dallas before being contracted by Twentieth Century Fox at age 15. An alcoholic from her early twenties and first marriage, Darnell struggled to find consistent or quality work after her studio contract ended in 1952.
After making a low budget western in 1965, Darnell went to visit her former secretary in suburban Chicago and a fire broke out in the house. Darnell’s friend and her daughter escaped but Darnell was trapped in the house and died from her injuries in hospital the next day.
