Carol Wayne 1942 – 1985

Carol Wayne: actress, born 6 September 1942, Chicago USA; died 13 January 1985, Manzanillo Mexico, 42 years of age; death by drowning.

Carol and her younger sister Nina entered show business as Ice Capades skaters and Las Vegas Showgirls. In addition to TV and film roles, Carol played “the Matinee Lady” in a recurring sketch with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show (TV 1967 – 1984).

In January 1985, while vacationing in Mexico with car salesman Edward Durston, Carol was found drowned in shallow water; she had taken a walk after arguing with Durston. 15 years previously, Durston had been present when the 20 year old daughter of broadcaster Art Linkletter suicided out her apartment window.

Carol’s sister Nina, who retired from acting in the early 1970s, married John Barrymore in 1985, divorcing in 1994; their daughter Jessica (Drew Barrymore’s half-sister) died unexpectedly at age 48 in 2014.
