Barbara Lang: American actress and singer, born 2 March 1928 Pasadena CA; died 22 July 1982, age 54 years, Los Angeles CA; pneumonia due to alcoholism.
Lang, the daughter of a silent movie dancer (Maureen Knight) overcame a bout of polio in her early-twenties and signed a contract with MGM in 1956 after attracting attention as a pin up model and nightclub singer. In 1959, despondent at the anulment of her second marriage and the cancellation of her MGM contract, Lang attempted suicide by swallowing sleeping pills in her home in the presence of her agent. At the hospital, she said “it was a mistake.”
Her final acting credit was in 1961. After her third marriage ended in divorce in 1972, Lang lived alone in Los Angeles, in failing health due to alcoholism. Her death was unreported in the press.
